In 1970 I hit a fixed object parked on the freeway. I hit the dashboard with my knee and dislo- cated, roughing up my socket, etc. By 1986 or so I was walking with a cane and a bottle of 400Mg. pain killer. A local Paedic surgeon (now deceased) fixed me up with a THR consisting of pressed-in socket and femoral spike-ball. All is metal with plastic coating in the socket. No cement. I am now 50 years old, male, 220 lbs and having no problems whatsoever. I swam laps for a while, and now exercise on a stair-stepper. My health is great.

I know that many folks are have many related health problems, and I give thanks for my "good" fortune. My question for the minority of you out there who have a similar circumstance is...... How long do these things last ? Some say 10-15 years, the surgery nurse said: "maybe your life".
