Yes, I developed aseptic necrosis after being given massive doses of prednisolone for an autoimmune disease when I was 19. I was put on crutches for over a year while they waited to see how quickly the condition progressed. Luckily it was fairly slow, so I was able to do away with the crutches and it was a matter of wait as long as I can (because of my age) until having my hips replaced. I was able to wait until I was 33 before having them both done, six months apart.

I'm surprised the doctors are suggesting a hip replacement for you at this early stage, particularly as the changes are not so gross as to be plainly visible on x-ray.

I'd be inclined to get another opinion before rushing into surgery.
