Dr. James Wenz performed a THR on my left hip on 03/07/00 at Johns Hopkins Bayview Medical Center in Baltimore. (I found him on the www at http://www.bayviewortho.com )The incision is 7cm! He was able to install a press-fit prostheses with a good enough fit to be totally weight bearing as tolerated. Only 3 nights in the hospital. I was full weight bearing within a week. At three weeks I use a cane only cccasionally. My Physical Therapist has had to reign me in for fear I would overdo it and cause a dislocation. Still some discomfort which I believe was due mainly to a slight lengthening of my leg which was 1.5 cm shorter than the right to begin with. (I had a slipped capitol epiphysis which was pinned as a kid, which docs now know often leads to osteoarthritis.) My experience at Johns Hopkins was better than I dreamed possible. I really believe the small incision (and of course the skill of the surgeon) has led to my rapid recovery.
