Hi, I had my right hip fused when I was 13 years old. That was 17 years ago. I was also told that I should also wait until I am older before I try hip replacement surgery. Now that I am 30, I believe it was the right decision. For starters, I have lived a very 'normal' life since the fusion. I golf, walk (with a not-so-noticable limp), drive cars with no problems, sit comfortably, tennis, weight-train, etc. Basically, I am capable of everything except running and riding a bike. As technology improves each year, I am waiting for the time that I get a THR. In the meantime, I am glad to know that my doctors seem to have given me the right advice 17 years ago. Good luck and make sure you get many opinions.
