I was first diagnosed with psoriatic arthritis(PA) in my knees during 1994. By March 1998 X-rays showed that PA had spread to my hips. On June 30, 1998 I had my right hip replaced; then on July 14, 1998 I had my left hip replaced. Next, I spent two weeks at the National Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH) in Washington, DC before I went home to re- cuperate. Moreover, on September 25, 1998 I had double knee replacement surgery. After three weeks of therapy at NRH I again went home to re- cuperate. By January 25, 1999 I was able to walk up a flight of stairs at home. From February thru June 1999 I had out-patient therapy at NRH. Also, all my surgeries were done at the Washington Hospital Center by skillful doctors. I am now able to walk unaided with only a cane. Plus, I am able to drive my car again since Jan- uary 2000. I was on sick leave from my job as a regional economist in the US Commerce Department during 1998-99 until I retired at the end of April 1999. In September 1999 I began an Income Tax Preparation course from H&RBlock, which offered me a part-time job (that I accepted) as a Tax Preparer during the Jan-April tax season. P.S. I am a 57 year old single black man who was born and raised in Washington, DC where I attended public schools thru the ninth grade. Then I went to a Catholic (male) high school before I received bachelor and master degrees from the Catholic University of America.
