At 48 I had just completed my first marathon. I wasn't in the greatest of shape but a month after the marathon I couldn't walk. For the next year I went from my primary care physician to an orthopod who thought I had a tumor. After many painful tests, he could decide what to do. So I changed docs and after 6 months of MRI's and CT scans and bone density tests, it was determined that I had osteolysis (bone cyst). I had my left hip replaced (non-cemented) one year ago. I still find my leg still when I try to do my walking program. I too, was surprized to find out that I have to curb my activity for the rest of my life. I wish docs would explain this. I did discover a great book, entitled A Patients Guide to Hip Replacement. This book is written by a man who also had THR and helps to explain what the docs don't tell you.
