Donna, I am not in your position, but I was diagnosied with Legg Perthes when I was 16 years old and under went my first THR at age 21, I am now 33 and have had the right hip for 12 years, and have not had any problems, but I am now facing having a THR on my left hip, and have to eventually have my right hip re-surrfaced or replaced again, but with my experience, all I can say is do what it takes to keep what you have, Not that I regret having my done, I DON'T, I have been pain free in my right hip since my surg in 1988, If you can put the surg off, then go for it, I had no choice at 21, But believe me when I say, Your not alone, I thought I was and just recently found this sight. Wish I had found it 12 years ago when I went thru my first replacement. I am a 33 year old male, that will soon have two (2) THR, right and left, I sometimes think, why me, but we can't do that. Just take what god gives you and face it, and everything will turn out the way he wants it to. I have come to believe that with all I have been thru. I know this probably doesn't help, but I just thought I would share my experience with you. Be Safe , your friend Larry
