Hi all. My name is Rob and I have AVN of both hips. My AVN was brought on by straight alcohol abuse. I entered the rooms of AA with the desire to stop drinking. I did not know at that time that I had AVN. I took a couple of weeks in AA (as my brain started to think again) that I needed to get this pain in my hip looked at. I went to the doctor and described my pain. His first question to me was "So you have a drinking problem?" After getting my MRI it was determined that I have Stage 3 in the right hip and Stage 1 in the left hip. If, in my early recovery in AA, that I had any doubt about my alcoholism, it was dissolved at this point. I now know that AVN was a gift from God to get me through those very tough early days of sobrioty. My decompression of the right hip is doing OK. I am about to get the left one done. If anyone needs support here please contact me at yelnats@worldnet.att.net I would be happy to respond
