Hi, My name is James (Jay) and I am currently Active duty military. I had my first THR (rt hip) on 8 June 2000. Hospital stay was 5 days, and was pretty ambulatory using a walker. In another week graduated to using only a cane for support. Cause for the replacement was diagnosed as SCFE. My question is, Is SCFE a birth defect, and If so why did I never have any problems as a child? I was very active in sports as a child, Baseball from pee wee all the way through High School, and the occasional tackle football game with friends. Can someone give me some answers? All I have read seems to indicate that if it was in fact SFCE that I should have had problems as a child not as an adult who is now having his career severly jepordized... ???????
