I started experiencing pain at 33, X-Ray showed AVN in right hip, cause unknown, although I played squash for about 20 years. By the time i was 35 pain became severe in my right hip,and I developed arthritis in left hip as well(I imagine it is common to develope arthritis in both hips) I managed to put up with the pain for a number of years until I had a THR (RH) in 1994,result was imediately pain free,I felt like a new person. IN 1998 I had my left hip done as well, although I could have dragged it out a while longer, 6 years after my first THR there are some signs of wear ,but this is par for the course for someone of my age and build (100 kg, which is about 20 kg more than I would like),wear itself is not a problem, the problem is the debris from that wear can erode surrounding bone which may necessitate a bone graft.
