Heather, Why some people feel they need to scare everyone is beyond me. If you have the best Dr. and Hospital you will be fine. Check this out before you jump into surgery. You did not say what your problem was, hip displashia?, AVN, accident? My hopsital stay was two days, 3-4 days being the average. I was up within 24 hrs walking to PT using my walker. You will have many precautions for 6-8 wks. I needed help showering and changing the badage, also going up and down stairs. Be sure you get all your necessary equipment in the house before the surgery. Raised toilet seat, walker, cane etc..My hospital conducted a 1/2 day seminar on all this, how to use the stairs getting in and out of cars etc.. perhaps you need to check into all this..before the surgery. You will do fine at your young age and by summer you will be playing with your dog and kids outside. Take this time for yourself and listen to your Dr. do your PT, and take things one day at a time... Keep us posted...... good luck..
