Hi Heather, I had a THR on my left side in March of last year. Before that, I, too was in a drug induced haze and constant pain and was feeling rather cranky because everyone was jumping around doing everything for me. I was in bed for the first 24 hrs after surgery, then UP with PT and off to the exercise room. By the 3rd day I wasn't even calling the nurse to help me to the bathroom and went home on the 4th. You will need help the first 2 or 3 weeks or so. You'll be able to go to the bathroom by yourself, dress yourself, etc. The sock-puller is a wonderful invention! and the reacher is great! And! do your exercises! They really help get you back to normal...and those muscles around your hip will be cut and moved during the procedure so it's real important that you be kind to yourself and get them moving again!!
