You're correct that the pain is serious. However the doctors will prescribe pain medication to help. I'm 54 and had a THR in January of 2000 and found that I was frustrated with my limited mobility and restrictions after surgery(sleeping, dressing, toilet use, etc.). Your mom will probably feel the same. I'm sure she will appreciate you being there with her and any positive encouragement you can provide. Point out the progress she will be making and encourage her to participate with rehab and with her exercises at home. My hat's off to you for helping her.
