I hadn't been able to check the site for replies before I went to MGH for a second opinion. I saw Dr. Harry Rubash, head of orthopedics. He read my films and examined me and then said that I should have my hip fixed. No one had ever suggested that it could be fixed before. He referred me to Dr. Vrahas, a surgeon also at MGH. I appear to be a perfect candidate for a periacetabular osteotomy. He is going to cut my hip where the cup is supposed to cover the head of my femur and reposition the bone fragment so that it covers the femoral head. It's 3 months of no weight bearing and then another six months of increasing mobility. This procedure should reverse the arthritis and put off the need for a THR for 20-30 years. Happy, happy, joy, joy!!!! Thanks goodness I had my kids first. Evidently the tilt in my pelvis helped me have speedy deliveries. Five hours first one and less than two for the second. I stopped there as I didn't want to be giving birth in a store or a taxi. I wonder if this will help with my waddle?
