I will be having a periacetabular osteotomy within the next 5 weeks. I was diagnosed with DDH very early but had no surgical procedures to correct it. I started having extreme pain in my hip this past October and saw an orthopedist who daignosed me with osteoarthritis, labral tear and I forget what else. He referred me to a surgeon for arthroscopic surgery. This would be a debredement on the joint, basically going in to scrape the cartilage smooth and remove any debris. Great for pain but it won't fix the cause. I went into Boston for a second opinion and boy am I glad that I did. I knew nothing about the possibility of getting my hip fixed. I saw Dr. Vrahas at Mass General Hospital. I see him tomorrow to schedule surgery. Recovery is long but the results are nearly permanent.
