I am a 39yo male diagnosed with AVN 2 years ago. I underwent bilateral Birmingham hip replacement on 30 April 2001 and couldn't be happier. The pain prior to surgery became intolerable and I'm pleased to say that I no longer experience any pain. In fact I have not had to take a pain killer since 3 weeks post surgery. I'm still on crutches but am currently attending Hydrotherapy 3 times a week and this has really helped to regain strength. I'm walk the block daily and manage stairs in my apartment block with little difficulty. The hardest part of the recovery is to break bad habits that formed pre-surgery. I can notice improvement each day. My best wishes to all and please feel free to contact me if you would like more information.
