I was born with CDH. As it was before they checked this at birth, I was 18 months before they discovered it. I had frog plaster and braces, but apparently I should have had surgery at about 6-8. At 16 I had to undergo an operation to graft a shelf over my socket to stop dislocation. It was a huge operation but kept my hip going until I was 33 when I had a THR. The THR was fantastic, I could actually go for long walks pain free, but unfortunately it didn't last very long. I am now 40 and facing huge revision surgery which will require massive bone grafts due to osteylysis. The surgeon said that when he opens me up he may find out that there is not enough bone to do anything with and that I may have to have my hip removed. It is called girdlestone. It means that I will need a shoe build up and a cane for life. You are DEFINATELY doing the right thing for your daughter. Do everything possible to prevent all these problems that can happen later. Although hip replacements are good. They can be very short lived in young active people and I would recomment anyone to try to avoid it for as long as possible.
