I was diagnosed with legg perthes when I was six years old. I am now 36 and preparing for a replacement. I have two sons (4 & 6). When I think back to see how my quality of life has diminished over the years...I probably should have done this years ago. I have missed out long enough on hikes, long bike rides and many other things...My big concern certainly is the surgery itself but the "life of the joint itself" My surgeon said that they only last 10 -15 years max. I think replacements are a good thing that will improve my quality of life.
