I, too, had avascular necrosis at age 12. I'm now 34 and am facing my second THR, this time with bone grafting. The plastics they used 10 years ago caused my femur to degrade and thin out. I would not recommend the plastic, but doctors say the new plastic doesn't cause the thinning problem. I had my first THR at age 24 and it lasted 10 years. You'll have to take it easy, even with the THR, but the relief from pain is great for the first few years. My pain began about 4-5 years after the first THR. God Bless You!
