I had total hip surgery (left hip) on Tues., May 5, 1998. Out of bed the same night to stand, then therapy the next day. Home by Friday. Up and walking with crutches, and even without crutches by the next week. I played 9 holes of golf before the summer's end as well as some "easy tennis" with my husband, then rejoined the women' league in Sept. for Tennis doubles. I have had excellent results, no pain, and have to remind myself that I have a hip replacement (not to bend more than 90 degrees, etc.,which I often forget and get reminded by my husband). Occasionally I feel pain in my right hip and hope that it, too, will not need replacement, but if it someday it does I will not hesitate to have the surgery. Having a new left hip has so improved my life. The pain I had before surgery radiated through my back, down my left leg to my knee and I was walking with a limp, really throwing my back out. I'm 69 years old, still playing tennis and golf, and able to help babysit my two youngest grandchildren, both under age 3.
