Hi Vivian,
I know the first week can be rather trying, here's some advice if you'd like some. As far as your leg swelling is concerned, get those TEDS back on. They compress your leg and tend to squeeze the fluid out and that should relieve some of the discomfort caused by that. As far as your bed, is your bed real high? My physical therapist told me to always get in bed with my operative side going in first, and then pull your good leg up and after it. I didn't use that big foam wedge I got from the hospital, but I did (and still do) put two slender bed pillows between my knees/thighs when in bed.
Hopefully, your doctor prescribed some anticoagulants for you. Something like Coumadin or Lovenox. Also, don't be shy about taking any pain pills that were prescribed for you as well.
I sure hope it gets better for you. I had my Left THR on 3-14 and I'm doing rather well. But, looking back, that first week sure is rough.
take care!!1
