HI MIKE: SORRY TO HEAR OF YOUR UNFORTUNATE DISLOCATION. AFTER 17 YEARS OF DEALING WITH THIS & 4 SURGERYS (2 ON EACH SIDE) I CONSIDER MYSELF LUCKY TO HAVE NOT HAD A MAJOR PROBLEM LIKE YOURS, ESPECIALLY WHEN I THINK OF SOME OF THE THINGS I'VE DONE. I DO BELIEVE THAT IF YOU START SLOW & DO THE EXERCISES THE DOCTOR PRESCRIBES IT WILL HELP SPEED THE RECOVERY. I TRUST THAT YOUR DOCTOR DID GIVE YOU A REGEMENT OF EXERCISES, ALONG WITH A LIST OF "DON'TS". DURING EACH OF MY RECOVERIES, I COULD FEEL THE MUSCLES BECOMING STRONGER AS I EXERCISED & GRADUALLY GOT TO WHERE I COULD DO JUST ABOUT ANYTHING. I CAN SAY THAT THESE JOINTS SEEM TO BE PROTECTIVE OF THEMSELVES IN THAT IF I GET INTO A RANGE OF MOTION THAT WOULD CAUSE A PROBLEM I SEEM TO BE ABLE TO FEEL IT. IT ALSO APPEARS TO ME THAT THE MUSCLES THEMSELVES ARE WHAT HOLDS THE JOINTS IN PLACE. WHEN I SEE MY RHEUMATOLOGIST & HE TRIES TO MOVE MY LEGS AROUND THERE SEEMS TO BE A DEFENSE RESISTANCE WHEN HE GOES TO FAR & THE MUSCLES TIGHTEN UP & STOP THE MOTION. I DON'T KNOW WHAT THE EXPLANATION IS. SO, CONTINUE YOUR EXERCISES & HANG IN THERE. IT ALSO OCCURS TO ME FROM READING SOME OF THE POSTS IN THIS FORUM, MAYBE SOME DRS. ARE HAVING THEIR PATIENTS DO TOO MUCH TOO SOON. AT SIX WEEKS, MY DR. HAD A FIT CAUSE THE P/T PEOPLE WERE HAVING ME DO EXERCISES THAT HE FELT COULD PUT TOO MUCH STRAIN ON THE NEW PROTHESIS. WE DISCUSSED THE FACT THAT P/T PEOPLE SOMETIMES CONSIDER ONLY THE REBUILDING OF THE MUSCLES & DON'T ALWAYS CONSIDER THE IMPLANT ITSELF. DON'T KNOW....JUST A THOUGHT. BEST OF LUCK ON YOUR RECOVERY PRES...
