Paul, I understand what you are going through. I'm only 39 myself and put off surgery as long as could. On April 17 of this year I had my right hip replaced. I think the fact that I'm having the left done August 17 says how I feel about it. From the moment I woke up after surgery, the pain has been gone. My thigh muscles were sore and the incision was tender but the hip joint itself, NO PAIN. No one knows how much pain your living with but yourself. I had gotten to the point of having to use crutches some times. I also didn't want my children to grow up and not be able to do things with them.
Concerning possible future surgeries. As my doctor told me, we don't know what will happen in the medical field. 10 years surgery may not be required. Who knows.
One final thought. If you do have surgery, follow your doctor's orders to the letter. It was tough to limit my weight bearing for 6 weeks but IT WAS WORTH IT.
