My name is Rob, and I too have AVN due to alcoholism. I had entered the rooms of AA with extreme pain in my hip. A couple of weeks into the program my sponcer suggested that I really should go to the doctor and get it checked out. As you are probably aware, this alcoholic never went to the doctor. But as a good newcomer in AA I took his advice. To make a long story short, the first words the doctor asked me after looking at my X-Rays was "Do you have a drinking problem? If there was any doubt about my alcoholism it was dissolved at that point... Yes I had a big problem.. AVN has been a God givin gift to me... I too am now living a wonderful life of sobrioty. I have gone through a dicompression of my right hip (Stage 3) and will be getting a dicompression on my left hip this fall (Stage 1). You are not alone out there....
