I am a 50 yr old in California who is 7 weeks post total left hip replacement. I got the ceramic on ceramic by finding a doctor who is a participant in the FDA study on ceramic hips. My recovery has been swift and "almost" painless compared to the pain previously. I had AVN of the ball as a result of an acident and the prior surgery to rod my femur. I am back to work part time and driving, must be careul not to internally rotate and can't tie shoes or put pantyhose on my left foot yet. Am doing a series of stretching exercises to reach that goal. I continue to attend physical therapy 2-2 times a week and the hard work there has really paid off. YES, he ceramic seems to have a muh longer life. Let's hope it is 20 to 30 years.
