I have been recommended to have a periacetabular osteotomy and have been terrified because of the long recovery peroid. At this point I've been holding off for at least two years. I was scheduled to have the surgery in February 2000 but backed out because I found out that the surgeon in Grand Rapids, Michigan had only done it once before. I also found out that the most experienced doctor in Michigan lived in Detroit, Michigan and now has recently moved to Nevada. I am 40 years old and would like to hold out for total hip replacement instead of the osteotomy. Is there a reason why you were unable to receive a total hip replacement?
