Heather, Refer to "pain recurring after 5 Months" below. I have not been able to stop limping myself. I believe it would be best for you to use a cane until you do improve. It was explained to me that the abductor muscles on the outside of the thigh are the ones that hold our body erect as we shift weight from one side to another. There are some specific exercises your PT could show you to improve the strength in these muscles. These are also the muscles that receive the most trauma during the operation. I have had a very hard time recovering this time although my first thr is doing great. Good luck with your recovery and don't give up and you will walk again.
