I am one of the lucky ones. I was diagnosed with leg perthies at the age of 6. It took my mother a while to realize that the pain I was complaining about was not made up. She took me to a specialist who immediately put me into the Childrens Hospital in Calgary, Alberta, Canada. It would be my home for the next week. My doctor, Dr. Harder was one of the few specialists in Canada. I spent a year in the hospital with my leg raised in the air and then another year on 2 different sets of leg braces. My doctor didn't like my chances of a full recovery. As it turned out I was one of the lucky ones who got out of any hip operations at all. I fully recovered and went on to play football and wrestle in high school. It is strange now that I am 26 to look back at the braces that I used to have to wear. I would like to hear back from anyone else who has or is recovering from leg perthies, my email is brklayer@hotmail.com
