Hi Kay, Glad to hear that you got your second opinion. I am now 8 weeks post op from my second periacetabular osteotomy (PAO). Had my left hip done 6 years ago and just did my right hip in March. My surgeon is Dr. Millis at Children's. I was always told that my hip couldn't be fixed, so when I met Dr. Millis and went thru my first PAO I couldn't believe the results. I went from having really bad arthritis, a limp, and a labral tear that would let the femur slip out and so much pain to feeling pretty much normal after the recoup period. It still feels good 6 years later. And, yes, it does take care of the waddle. It really is a major undertaking, though. It's not easy, but definitely worth it. If you'd like I'd be happy to tell you in more detail what it's like. You can e-mail me at myrajoy@mit.edu. Good luck as you prepare. Take care.
