I had both hips operated on this year at the Royal Orthopaedic Hospital in Birmingham England - the home of the Birmingham Hip Resurfacing. My first was in March and the other in May. They were to be one week apart but my right leg had to be realigned by about 15 degrees. The time in between was to allow the soft tissue (muscle etc.) to heal and give support. Speak to your surgeon. Hip Resurfacing is great, lasts a long while and allows you to have a 1stTHR in 20-30 years time. A lot of sportsmen, proffesional and amateur have chosen this route as it still allows you to carry on in a number of different sports (Squash, golf etc.). The pain from the arthritis disappeared straight away. Difficulty in sleeping on your back for a while but you get used to it. I dislocated my right hip 2 weeks after 2nd op. but am O.K. now. It along with infection are known problems with all hip operations but I would still go for Hip Resurfacing and would recommend it to anyone.
