Hello! I had bilateral ganz periacetabular osteotomies in california, done by a surgeon who had studied with dr. ganz in switzerland. i had bilateral hip displasia, which was missed until i was 4 1/2 years old. although the osteotomies (at age 28)didn't work for me in the long run (i've gone on to have bilateral THR's) they did result in having a place to PUT the THR's (my sockets were flat until the osteotomies- no socket in which to put implants!) i don't know if there has been much research done on the circumstances under which osteotomies are most successful. if it were me, i'd make sure that the surgeon answered all my questions about why he thought it was the best alternative for me; i'd also want to know how many he had already done/participated in doing (most OS are not very familiar with this alternative).

although they didn't work for me, i'm personally still glad that i tried that option. i hope that you will have a great physical therapist afterwards to help you strengthen your muscles afterwards! if you have any specific questions that you think i might be able to answer, pls let me know.
